Job Summary The Senior Toolroom and Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the toolroom and maintenance departments to ensure optimal equipment performance, tool availability, and facility upkeep. This role combines strategic planning, team leadership, and hands‑on technical expertise to support production efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate all toolroom activities including tool design, manufacturing, maintenance, and inventory control.
Ensure timely availability of tools and fixtures to support production schedules.
Supervise toolmakers and technicians, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
Implement and maintain a computerized tool tracking and maintenance system.
Provide technical support and quotations for new tooling, modifications, and repairs.
Oversee CAD/CNC programming and ensure high‑quality workmanship in tool fabrication.
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all facility equipment.
Manage a team of maintenance technicians across multiple trades (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.).
Monitor equipment performance and reliability, using CMMS systems to track metrics and service history.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
Plan and manage capital expenditures related to equipment upgrades and facility improvements.
Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues to minimize downtime.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and maintenance operations.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, including labor, materials, and capital investments.
Lead training and development programs for toolroom and maintenance staff.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology or related field.
7–10 years of experience in toolroom and maintenance management within a manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and team‑building skills.
Proficiency in CMMS, CAD/CAM software, and inventory management systems.
Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles is a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
Working in a plant environment.
Frequent distractions and interruptions.
Multiple demands, challenging, fast paced, team‑oriented environment, fumes, and noise.
Constant standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing.
Hot/Cold temperatures.
Constant communication with employees, peers, management, and customers involving time management, multi‑tasking, scheduling, decision making, forecasting and problem solving.
