Packaging Engineer As a Packaging Engineer you will be responsible for all aspects of product packaging design, costing, sourcing, qualification, commercialization, and production support & troubleshooting of new and existing packaging configurations. Provides leadership and guidance to improve efficiencies in packaging operations. Provides functional technical support to Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality and other functional areas.
Responsibilities
Partner with internal and external customers to design, source and qualify packaging components, equipment, and operational processes & procedures. Lead new product packaging development (components, equipment, procedure, etc.) for the organization.
Research and stay current on industry trends, developments and evolving technologies to identify potential emerging business opportunities, and supply issues.
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Planning to improve company’s OEE (Operations Equipment Efficiency) with a focus on the packaging department. Work with packaging department on line efficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
Work with Maintenance and other departments on equipment needs and internal processes for the various packaging formats.
Manage all aspects of packaging component and equipment qualification program. Support procurement and operations with identifying and qualifying planning component, and equipment vendors, as well as third party contractors.
Issue/Review cost quotes on new and revised packaging configurations. Create and edit Packaging Master Batch Records (PMBRs) and Packaging Bill of Materials (BOMs).
Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers, offer training, solutions, etc.
Support the preparation to new ERP transition, driving the clean-up of legacy raw material and finished products, ensuring cross‑functional alignment and support.
Creates effective back‑up plans and cross trains department personnel.
Follow established department SOPs, cGMP regulations, and batch record instructions.
Complies with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
Maintains a safe work environment and operates in a safe manner.
Perform other related job duties related to the job, as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree from an accredited college/university; plus.
Six (6) or more years of work experience in nutraceutical, food, pharmaceutical or related industries; or.
Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully perform the job.
Strong knowledge and experience of packaging systems, production methods/systems, continuous improvement processes, problem analysis and resolution.
Excellent written and oral communications skills & techniques, with high level of attention to detail.
General knowledge and understanding of nutritional ingredients, basic product formulations and their claims.
General understanding of manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain and business implications of formulation decisions.
