As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The RN is accountable for the coordination of patient care and education to the patient and family in accordance with standards, policies, and practices in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities

Follows policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals. Translates learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the Nursing Process. ASSESSMENT: Completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and with change of condition. Completes patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily. DIAGNOSIS: Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses. PLAN: Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions. Documents expected/projected patient outcomes. Reviews/updates Plans of Care daily based on evaluation of patient outcomes. INTERVENTION: Administers medications and IV therapy appropriately at prescribed intervals. Delegates tasks based on scope of practice and competency. Acts as patient advocate. Manages restraint use per policy, using non-restraint measures first. Ensures MD orders and assessments per policy. Monitors patient per policy. Completes Restraint Audit Form each shift. DOCUMENTATION: Maintains complete and correct documentation on all flow sheets and chart forms. Ensures orders are transcribed and signed off prior to end of shift. Completes 12h/24h chart checks. EDUCATION: Provides patient/family education as needed; uses MICROMEDEX information as appropriate. TRANSFER & DISCHARGE: Collaborates with Case Manager/physician regarding discharge planning. Ensures transfer paperwork and patient belongings are handled appropriately. EQUIPMENT: Uses patient care equipment safely per manufacturer guidelines (e.g., IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA, Epidural pump). COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, patient, and family; provides shift-to-shift reports, rounds, and hand-offs. ORGANIZATION: Manages time; prioritizes responsibilities; completes shifts on time. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Adheres to safety and regulatory standards (e.g., patient identifiers, HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO readiness, critical values). Maintains safe practice in the work environment. CARE OF COMPLEX PATIENTS: Manages care for medically and surgically complex patients across ICU, step-down, telemetry, dialysis, psychiatric, and other units as applicable. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH: Applies de-escalation techniques and safety protocols; ensures physician assessment within required timeframes for restraints; participates in debriefings when appropriate. QUALITY MEASURES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in quality initiatives and professional activities; engages in unit/project teams as assigned. Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019. 1 year acute inpatient hospital experience as an RN. Experience in surgical units; ICU and Telemetry preferred. Excellent communication skills in English (spoken, reading, writing). Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to follow policies and perform duties including blood collection and apheresis procedures as applicable. Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Licenses & Certifications

Required:

Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association Fire Life Safety Training – LA City (or obtain within 30 days of hire and renew by expiration) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (required for ICU/Step-down/Telemetry; if not currently held, obtain within 180 days or by end of orientation) Specialty certification is preferred Salary range: $44.00 – $95.00 per hour. USC considers factors including scope of responsibilities, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions when extending offers.
