As a Pre-Production Quality Engineer (QE), you will support the build and validation of prototype vehicles used by Engineering and Manufacturing teams. This includes identifying and resolving quality issues, driving root cause analysis, and facilitating issue resolution across various internal teams and external suppliers. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic pre-production environment, supporting the development of advanced propulsion systems (engines, transmissions, batteries, electric drive units). This is a hands-on role with opportunities to work on cutting-edge technology before it reaches the public. Key Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance to Pre-Production technicians on the build floor. Serve as liaison between Pre-Production Operations (PPO), Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supplier Quality teams. Lead easel board meetings and facilitate issue resolution using global issue resolution process. Manage and prioritize quality issues using the Electronic Easel Board system. Perform initial root cause analysis and assign ownership for issues (Design, Manufacturing, Supplier, PPO). Interact with suppliers to manage quality concerns, lead containment efforts, and handle cost recovery documentation. Analyze engineering data (blueprints, GD&T, CMM, FARO, scan reports) related to design and supplier components. Stay current on product development trends and engineering best practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and utilize tools such as Red X and DFSS. Participate in quality system audits and ensure adherence to internal processes. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology OR at least 10 years of relevant experience instead of a degree 0–2 years of experience in a quality engineering or related technical role Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and engineering documentation Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting to teams and management Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering tools (e.g., CAD, CMM) Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Red X or other statistical problem-solving methodologies Background in prototype or low-volume manufacturing environments Familiarity with internal systems (Electronic Easel Board, Issue Resolution Process) DFSS or similar certification Prior supplier quality or containment experience On-site role in a large facility with machining and assembly areas Team includes 4 Quality Engineers, with collaboration across UAW and engineering teams Standard work hours with no flexibility; participation in contractor shutdown days required No travel or remote work expected Why This Role is Compelling
