Purpose and Scope The teaching faculty are responsible for providing learning activities and support that lead to course objectives and a productive educational environment. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. CE Adjunct faculty are hired part-time on a semester basis, contingent upon system needs. Courses are offered day, evening, and weekend, at various times and locations. Adjunct faculty may teach up to five classes per academic year.
Responsibilities
Teaches Continuing Education courses in the Certified Nursing Aide Program
Develops and utilizes a course syllabus for each course following institutional guidelines
Instructs students in lecture, on-site laboratory, and off-site clinical facilities, correlating theory with practice of basic nursing care for long-term facility residents in preparation for the state certification exam
Complies with state requirements established by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDHHS) and Lone Star College program expectations
Performs ongoing, written student evaluations using the Texas Nurse Aide Performance Record and evaluates student comprehension by administering tests, providing oral and written feedback
Evaluates students by multiple measures and informs them of progress in a timely manner
Submits required college reports and forms
Provides timely, quality access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods
Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Fine motor activities and manual dexterity for handling and manipulating objects
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently
Ability to push, pull, squat, turn, twist, bend, and stoop
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to discern sound
Extending hands and arms in any direction
Clear visual acuity for data preparation, transcription, computer use, and extensive reading
Work Schedule & Conditions Equipment includes a PC workstation in a Windows environment, calculator, phone, and general office equipment. Interactions with internal and external contacts are required. Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal safety hazards. Hours vary depending on class times; instructors must meet scheduled class times and be available to students outside of instruction.
Required Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) currently licensed in Texas
At least two years of nursing experience
Completed course of teaching adult students, or adult teaching experience, or experience supervising Nurse Aids
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor or Associate degree in Healthcare or a health-related field
Previous Charge Nurse experience in a long-term care facility or at least one year of experience providing long-term care services in a nursing facility
Salary $53.82 per contact hour.
