The Safety Lead - Bus Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for investigating incidents related to vehicle maintenance, such as major events and near misses involving employee injuries, infrastructure damage, derailments, or service interruptions. The role involves responding to incidents, gathering documentation, reporting, determining root causes, and collaborating with the Vehicle Maintenance Department to recommend corrective actions to enhance safety policies and procedures. The Safety Lead will work closely with the Vehicle Maintenance Department to track safety recommendations, support the implementation of MBTA Safety Programs in compliance with OSHA Standards, and assist with safety audits. Staying updated on new safety laws and regulations and recommending necessary changes to MBTA Safety management is also a key responsibility. Duties & Responsibilities: Implement Safety Management Systems (SMS) across MBTA, supporting safety policies, risk management, assurance, and promotion. Respond to incidents, gather evidence, and report to relevant parties promptly. Coordinate with departments to collect inspection, training, and service data for incident investigations. Conduct root cause analyses and recommend feasible corrective actions. Track, implement, and verify safety recommendations and corrective actions to ensure hazard mitigation. Work includes weekend shifts and any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) as assigned. Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections and audits of facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards. Develop, update, and interpret safety policies and standards to promote safety programs. Stay current with MBTA's Safety Plan and industry safety standards. Oversee safety activities, conduct program assessments, and identify areas for improvement. Update safety policies and procedures accordingly. Develop and deliver safety training in line with regulatory and company requirements. Prepare safety inspection and hazard assessment reports and present findings. Assist during internal and external safety audits and investigations. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field. Six (6) years of experience in vehicle manufacturing, maintenance, or testing. One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience. Valid CDL Class B with passenger/air brake endorsements. Ability to respond to incidents and perform safety oversight in various weather conditions, including extreme weather, at any time of day or night. Valid Class D driver's license. Experience in assessing safety hazards and ensuring corrective measures are followed. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance standards, codes, and regulations. Experience in applying safety programs and conducting safety assessments. Additional Details:
