The Field Auditor will support the MBTA Railroad Operations (RROPS) Mechanical Department auditing MBTA assets. The Auditor will report to the MBTA Railroad Operations Mechanical Director and will be an extension of the Railroad Operation Offices as related to auditing, monitoring, and reporting with regards to the condition of rolling stock, layovers, facilities, compliance audits of revenue service, creating service requests and confirming repairs. The Auditor will also be required to monitor maintenance practices, contractual compliance, and assess penalties and fines appropriately based on their findings. Additionally, the Auditor will ensure MBTA goals are met to provide safe, clean, and reliable commuter rail service.

Monitor and ensure compliance with Commuter Rail Operating Agreement Services.

Perform inspection checks on daily passenger service coaches and locomotives.

Investigate customer service concerns and confirm if contractor’s corrective action is adequate or create alternate solution(s).

Respond to and investigate emergency conditions (such as derailments and accidents) and other unusual occurrences related to the mechanical fleet and provide. formal reports.

Prepare written reports as needed.

Assist with PM inspection checks on passenger coaches and locomotives.

Assist with the oil analytics lab, and reporting program.

Assist in recommending capital funding programs for improvements to fleet reliability.

Assist in identifying corrective actions for fleet and facility maintenance issues.

Assist in the preparation of responses to technical issues.

Assist in measuring the MBTA Commuter Rail Operator performance and effectiveness. associated with the Commuter Rail coach equipment.

Drive a company or personal vehicle to work-sites to inspect work, conduct. investigations, and/or assist at emergencies and events as needed.

Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.

Respond to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis.

Adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.

Perform related duties and projects as assigned by the MBTA RROPS' Mechanical Department.

High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.

One (1) year of experience with heavy or transit vehicle maintenance and inspections.

Ability to use fleet management maintenance systems to track failure and maintenance actions.

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.

Effective organizational, analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.

The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.

The ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.

A valid US driver’s license.

Successful applicants must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.

Preferred Experience and Skills

Additional years of experience in a field auditing capacity.

Hands-on experience with MBTA legacy and new passenger coach equipment.

Two (2) year technical or vocational training program, including but not limited to a college degree program, high school vocational program, union apprenticeship, United States Armed Services training and/or documented employer training may be substituted for the required work experience.
