Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) is responsible for transitioning over 4,200 first-year students and over 800 transfer students into the UNC community, as well as establishing and maintaining a relationship with over 20,000 families of Carolina undergraduates. NSFP provides new undergraduate students and families with programs and services aimed at supporting their transition to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with the goal of supporting retention and success in the higher education environment. Position Summary:

The Orientation Leader Development Coordinator (OLDC) will direct and lead NSFP’s Orientation Leader program, collaborate with NSFP Associate Director to co-manage all aspects on New Student & Family Orientation, and direct NSFP’s alumni engagement efforts. In addition, the coordinator will collaborate to develop and implement assessment efforts for Orientation initiatives, utilizing the data to identify continuous improvement opportunities for programs. Supervise 27 Orientation Leaders, NSFP Undergraduate Fellow(s) for Orientation and NODA Graduate Intern(s). Responsibilities include providing opportunities for development, personal goal planning and regular performance feedback for student leaders, who support new student acculturation and orientation to the University. The OLDC creates, manages, and reconciles a $100,000+ budget for Orientation Leaders Program. The Orientation Leader Development Coordinator reports to the NSFP Associate Director. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

A minimum of one year of full-time professional experience in higher education or related field is required. Two years in a related graduate assistantship may equal one professional year. Successful candidates must have ability to work effectively in teams and individually in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and inclusion among students and families. Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of first-year and transfer students and their families and how to best program, serve, and communicate with these constituent groups; Successful candidates must have excellent verbal and written communications, proofreading, and editing skills. Proven ability to prioritize work appropriately and adapt easily to changing priorities as well as work independently on multiple tasks and deal effectively with conflicting priorities. Candidates must have a willingness to work some evenings/weekends throughout the year and serve on-call for duration of each orientation session. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Previous experience in developing and implementing orientation and transition programs preferred as is experience in developing programs for family members of college students; Previous experience with student leadership development is preferred including the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and supervision of undergraduate students; Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, and communication skills necessary to develop successful working relationships with diverse members of the University community and external constituents; Experience making data-driven strategic decisions aimed at continually improving programs and services. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
