A Component Engineer supports the project engineering teams supporting the Liquid and Powder Technologies Departments by maintaining and continuously optimizing standard component designs and through the development of new components and the resolution of component-related issues as they occur. Projects may involve technologies such as Spray Drying, Powder Handling, Evaporation, Filtration and Liquid Processing. The Component Engineer may act as the Project Manager for select product development projects. This role provides the opportunity for a hybrid working schedule (up to one day per week remote).

Responsibilities / Tasks

Develop mechanical information related to standard components and maintain in appropriate database(s).

Provide technical guidance for new component development working closely with product managers and the CoC.

Identify and evaluate cost savings for parts and manufacturing procedures.

Responsible for guidance of technical designs for projects according to GEA standards, customer specifications and applicable regulations including USDA and 3A.

Coordinate with project contributors including 3rd party suppliers, procurement, fabrication, quality control, design, automation, process engineering, project engineering, component engineering and structural engineering.

Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments and resolve engineering design and test problems.

Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, manufacturability, and related specifications.

Attend design review meetings for key project components and for all components of a new or customized nature.

Collaborate with fabrication shops to optimize manufacturability and cost.

Create component technical specifications for the design department and participate in design reviews.

Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

Create and maintain technical operating manuals identifying and describing equipment operating characteristics.

Specify buyout components and support procurement in price negotiation.

Coordinate project-specific structural engineering requirements.

Create item requirements in ERP system and spare parts lists for components.

Participate in USDA-3A workgroups.

Provide technical mentoring, leadership, and training to project teams.

Complete other tasks as assigned by line manager.

Required Skills / Abilities

Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team setting.

Good English language communication skills both written and verbal.

Computer literate and proficient in MS Office products.

Detail oriented and highly organized.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Your Profile / Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering - Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Food Science or related field.

Experience in Mechanical engineering, manufacturing, FEA and AutoCAD and/or Inventor.

Knowledge of 3A and USDA regulations.

3+ years of experience in dairy component technology or related industry.

Structural engineering familiarity preferred.

Willingness to travel on average 25% of the time.

Compensation and Benefits The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $80,000 - $120,000 per year. GEA Group has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States. The pay range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for the position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. You may be eligible for additional rewards, such as discretionary bonus (based on eligibility) and/or equity awards.
