Overview
The Electrical Engineer / Designer position is a salaried, professional role that works with architects, engineers, designers, project coordinators and campus customers on the design and construction of campus projects. This role focuses on campus impacts, needs, project budgets and schedules, and collaborates with design professionals to deliver quality designs within budget while anticipating and mitigating construction challenges. Responsibilities
Work with licensed design professionals in a team environment to identify a scope of work, prepare design concepts with construction cost estimates, and complete the design with final construction documents (drawings and specifications). Review projects with a licensed professional for compliance with NYS Building Codes. Represent Facilities Management in meetings with clients, customers and other design team members to identify a scope of work. Manage projects through design and construction phases. Periodically review construction progress and respond to information requests from contractors during construction. Attend job meetings, review and produce design documents and written specifications, and ensure accuracy of meeting minutes. Design experience should include Electrical Systems (Power, Lighting, and Special Systems). Examples of projects previously handled by our Facilities Management Electrical Design Team include major renovations, new plants, office and lab renovations, building additions, dormitory renovations, and related electrical projects. Requirements
Current licensure as a Professional Engineer in New York State OR Bachelor’s degree and eligibility for taking the Fundamentals (FE) Examination and Principles & Practice (PE) Examination. ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 4 years of design experience under a licensed professional is acceptable. Revit software proficiency in your discipline. Building renovation / construction design and specification writing experience. Preferred Effective written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities. Experience with construction project management, cost estimating, and scheduling software. Working knowledge of New York State Building Codes and design standards (National Electrical Code, NFPA, ASHRAE). Passed the Fundamentals (FE) Examination and the Principles & Practice (PE) Examination; NYS Professional Engineering license. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
