This leadership position communicates with customers, engineering, production, and our inside/outside sales teams to provide technical assistance with a focus on engineering support. Position Summary
This role conducts detailed technical analyses and feasibility studies to evaluate compatibility with evolving cladding products and building envelope system configurations, providing high quality customer service to help position the company as a leader in cladding support solutions. Responsibilities Include
Lead team of engineering technical staff including managing workloads, overseeing special projects, professional development and mentoring, and conducting monthly performance reviews. Develop, support, and implement QC processes, resources, and equipment to support compliance reporting requirements. Support and provide training for sales staff via references, training aids, and hands-on training. Develop and publish sustainability, technical, and compliance documentation to meet changing demands. Support customer technical and engineering inquiries via phone calls, email, and video calls to ensure customers are provided with requisite products for each unique project. Develop new standard and custom products including concept design, CAD and fabrication drawings, CNC code, equipment and tooling selection/ordering, product costing/pricing, in-house and external testing, and contract with outside vendor when applicable. Maintain CAD and ERP part library, technical documentation, equipment specifications, tooling records, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Provide project-specific support to sales staff for product application, plan/specification technical review and analysis, KWS product compatibility with other products, and structural capacity to determine and meet the intent of architects. Process project-specific engineering orders including assisting with CAD drawings, managing schedules to meet customer promise dates, and contracting with 3rd party engineering firms. Optimize manufacturing workflow via new production techniques and collaboration on R&D of new products. Continued education on new industry products, codes, and standards (e.g. IBC, IRC, ASHRAE 90.1, local jurisdictional requirements, etc.) to ensure compatibility and compliance as the building industry evolves. Interface with clients to build rapport and identify core requirements with focus on delivering quality projects which meet requirements. Develop full design packages from sketches to finished product including CAD models, renderings, prototypes, and full manufacturing and assembly drawings. Advise on critical decisions such as part form and function, material selection, tolerances, hardware, manufacturing methods, and suppliers. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient project completion. Evaluate and select appropriate materials, components, and equipment for manufacturability, useability, safety, and structural capacity based on performance requirements and budget constraints. Work closely with vendors and suppliers to source components and equipment, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of materials. Support expedited concern resolution with cross-functional teams to meet customer needs. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to cladding to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading trade publications such as RAINA, ASTM, and understanding the IBC – international building codes. Travel to customers, tradeshows and seminars as needed. Education and Prior Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Technology or Engineering or a related specialized area/field, or equivalent (4 years job-related experience). 5-7 years of prior experience in manufacturing or construction project management with working knowledge of cladding attachment systems, structural wall assemblies and the 4 control layers. Experience working with graphic/desktop publishing software such as AutoCad, Bluebeam, Inventor or Solidworks helpful. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Working knowledge of ERP system maintenance (Epicor preferred) with support provided to direct reports and other team members.
