Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC) in Newark within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to serve as an expert in the advanced nursing care. The APN functions collaboratively with physician of protocol for prescriptive practice and works collaboratively within the treatment team to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and assessment services. The APN demonstrates competency according to the American Nurses Association Advanced Practice Standards and credentialing body.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Engages in collaborative practice with the physician of protocol for prescriptive practice.

Consults with physicians, psychiatrist, and other clinical staff members as necessary.

Diagnoses health and developmental problems.

Formulates and implements an appropriate plan of treatment for individuals served and participates with treatment team, in the development of treatment plans on shared individuals served.

Assesses and monitors physical health needs of individuals served.

Provides advanced practice nursing care to individuals served presenting with acute problems, managing therapeutic regimes according to protocols.

Identifies risk factors and implements appropriate prevention and intervention.

Provides psychotherapeutic intervention and health teaching to individuals served.

Assists in the development of protocols for specific psychiatric patient population.

Responsible for clinical documentation that is current and meets standards of practice.

Collaborates with individual served and treatment team members in discharge planning.

Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes appropriate community resources.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all individuals served, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Nursing required.

At least two (2) years of nursing experience required preferably as an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Must have prescriptive ability.

Certifications/Licenses

Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Current credentialling certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Controlled Dangerous Substances Registration Number.

Drug Enforcement Administration Registration Number.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting under 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, under 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.
