Overview Pharmacy Operations Manager responsible for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring an efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician where applicable.

Responsibilities

Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.

Oversee the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians; make decisions regarding discipline and termination as needed.

Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving complaints, responding to requests, and answering non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Build relationships by anticipating needs and offering services to enhance the pharmacy experience.

Assist the pharmacist in patient care activities including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Conduct patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision; participate in healthcare service offerings including vaccines and health screenings where permitted by law.

Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within company policies and regulatory guidelines; ensure on-time task completion and maintain efficient workflow.

Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies; manage core pharmacy workflow and daily activity scheduling; ensure the pharmacy is clean, neat, and stocked.

Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management not requiring pharmacist licensure; manage annual inventory preparation.

Support recordkeeping, security safeguards, and proper operation/maintenance of pharmacy department equipment. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all applicable dispensing activities.

Support diversion monitoring and report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager; communicate prescription errors and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement.

Assist in processing insurance claims to resolve issues and prevent rejections; follow up with insurance companies and providers; participate in 3rd party audits.

Assist and support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist assignments to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build relationships with retail partners.

People & Performance Management

Lead performance management of technicians, including discipline decisions; apply constructive discipline policies to ensure compliance with laws and timeliness/attendance; drive team engagement and performance improvement.

Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and adhere to scheduling/training policies.

Identify gaps in operation knowledge and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules.

Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for all pharmacy staff; document status using Walgreens resources; ensure compliance with policy and legal requirements.

Enforce hiring, record retention, and training procedures per Company policy and local, state, and federal laws.

Training & Personal Development

Maintain PTCB certification and other required state certifications/registrations.

Keep current knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare; obtain required certifications and credits; follow performance improvement plans as directed.

Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and leverage mentors for growth.

Communication

Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support channels; participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).

One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital setting.

Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).

Preferred Qualifications

Previous people management/leadership experience.

Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on the last performance evaluation.

The current salary range for this position is $22.50 per hour - $31.00 per hour. The actual hourly salary offered will depend on geography, skills, education, experience, and other factors.
