Overview
Pharmacy Operations Manager role at Walgreens. Responsible for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where permitted by state and federal laws/regulations. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician and ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Select, schedule, and develop pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving complaints, responding to requests, and answering non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Build relationships by anticipating needs and promoting services.
Assist pharmacist in patient care activities including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Support healthcare service offerings such as vaccines and health screenings where permitted.
Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within policy and law; ensure on-time task completion and maintain efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies as directed. Manage core pharmacy workflow, daily scheduling, and inventory management; ensure the pharmacy is stocked and orderly.
Drive technology/process rollouts, oversee recordkeeping and security safeguards in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during applicable prescription-dispensing activities.
Support asset protection and diversion monitoring, and communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist. Address insurance claims to prevent rejections and participate in third-party audits.
Assist in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Coordinate community outreach and immunization clinics as directed and build retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
Lead technician performance management, including discipline and termination decisions. Follow constructive discipline policies and ensure technicians are compliant with laws. Manage attendance and timeliness; drive engagement and action planning.
Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling. Ensure timely training completion and adherence to scheduling procedures.
Identify knowledge gaps and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules. Monitor licensure, registrations, and certifications for all pharmacy staff; use Walgreens resources to document status.
Ensure compliance with company policies and local, state, and federal laws in recruitment, record retention, and training.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and stay current with required certifications/registrations.
Continue professional development and participate in performance improvement plans as directed. Seek feedback and engage an appropriate mentor or coach.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from the support center as required. Participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience.
Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
