The Electrical Engineering Manager reports to senior engineering leaders and collaborates with various functional leaders across the company, including product management, marketing, sales, finance, manufacturing, procurement, operations, regulatory, and quality. The role involves supporting new product development and sustaining engineering projects, including PCBA design and manufacturing, layout, schematics, firmware, and IoT initiatives.
Key responsibilities include review, testing, prototype builds, concept development, test equipment development, validation, root cause analysis for electrical issues, firmware debugging, and documentation. The manager will work closely with Ferno Group Companies, contract engineering firms, contract manufacturers, and the Field Service Resolution team to achieve objectives. This position serves as the go-to person for global electrical support.
Requirements include:
Providing technical guidance and project management for product development, improvement, testing, and technical documentation.
Developing specifications for motor systems, microcontrollers, batteries, sensors, wireless communications, displays, harnesses, and electromechanical and hydraulic assemblies.
Developing embedded software and firmware, with GUI experience, using Visual Studio in C and C++.
Managing engineering documentation and drawings for production using Altium and SolidWorks.
Material selection responsibility for components like connectors, sensors, cabling, EMC shielding, and enclosures.
Familiarity with IEC, UL, UN, CSA, CE, and EN standards.
Implementing formal processes to support product development and market entry.
Ensuring process controls and managing engineering change orders and phase-gate processes.
Applying technology and resources effectively to meet customer and product requirements.
Establishing team objectives, initiatives, and managing team performance.
Handling hiring, performance appraisals, coaching, employee development, and engagement.
Ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, especially for electromechanical aspects.
Providing expertise in design best practices, failure modes, failure analysis, and testing requirements.
Qualifications include:
Experience launching multiple electrical products from concept to market, preferably in medical devices.
Undergraduate degree in Engineering; MS preferred.
At least fifteen years of experience in successful product development programs.
Understanding of FDA 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485 standards.
Proven proficiency in product design transfer and manufacturing experience.
Decision-making abilities regarding training, coaching, compliance, reliability, and testing methodologies.
Strong project management skills.
Experience with component selection, vendor qualification, first article approval, QA testing, and software integration.
Familiarity with systems integration, metal fabrication, electromechanical, and hydraulic systems.
Physical and safety requirements include prolonged sitting, manual dexterity, cognitive demands, safety gear use, and up to 15% local travel.
