Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Respects patient issues and questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Customer service excellence: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including empathetic and inclusive interactions. Patient engagement: Anticipates needs and promotes services such as patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, and other wellness services to enhance the pharmacist role. Events: Participates in community events as requested by leadership. Operations
Pharmacist tasks: Counsels patients on usage, side effects, interactions, generics, and OTC products; refers to medical providers as needed. Pharmacy tasks: Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; dispenses prescribed medications accurately. Compliance: Ensures pharmacy operations comply with regulations and company policies; manages workflow, staffing, scheduling, and shift changes. Policies: Applies Good Faith Dispensing principles in line with laws when filling prescriptions. IT and claims: Maintains pharmacy systems knowledge; improves productivity and handles insurance claims to prevent rejections. Clinical services: Follows up with providers on medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; performs immunizations and disease management services. Collaboration: Works with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conducts virtual product reviews as applicable. Maintenance: Oversees maintenance and layout of the pharmacy; submits records and reports required by laws. People & Performance Management
Hiring and discipline: Collaborates on pharmacy staff hiring, and ensures compliance with employment laws. Performance management: Sets expectations, monitors improvements, and conducts performance reviews; recognizes high potential team members. Career development: Identifies opportunities for advancement and supports staff career progression. Employee relations: Addresses concerns, maintains morale, and resolves conflicts. Training & Personal Development
Licensing and credentials: Maintains required licensing and certifications to provide clinical services. Knowledge development: Keeps up with pharmacy and healthcare knowledge; pursues best practices. Education and development: Completes required education credits and seeks professional development with mentors. Communications
Internal communications: Shares relevant corporate health and wellness information with pharmacy staff. Business Performance & Planning
Performance analysis: Analyzes pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory; oversees asset protection and inventory management; identifies improvement opportunities. Community relationships: Builds relationships with local medical providers and promotes growth opportunities for the pharmacy. Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the district states. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and applicable state and federal controlled substance laws. Internal candidates: average leadership rating of at least 3.0 on last performance review with no disciplinary actions in last 12 months. About Walgreens
