Overview

Provide the expertise and knowledge that supports the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community service. Location and Employment Type

Houston, Texas, John B Coleman Building Adjunct position; Requisition #Jun 09, 2025 Responsibilities

Teaching: Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline. Actively participate in the collection, analysis, documentation and reporting of data to assess student, course and program outcomes and utilize data to improve teaching and learning. Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory and submit a copy to the department chair. Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet course objectives for students with differing backgrounds and learning styles. Evaluate students and inform them of progress in a timely manner; keep accurate student records and submit related reports within requested timelines. Review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks and learning materials; teach courses at various times and locations as needed; use equipment and facilities responsibly; assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories where appropriate. Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies. Submit all grades, attendance rosters, or other required items at the stipulated time. Academic Advising: Maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues; provide access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication; provide advice on instructional or program-specific issues; make presentations on academic fields or programs; work with the Chair on appropriate advising activities as needed by the College and Department. Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for professional growth; keep pace with developments in the discipline; learn and apply technologies that support student learning; participate in evaluation processes. Institutional and Community Service: Participate in institutional activities, discipline committee or program meetings, department/college/system meetings, and adhere to policies; engage in activities that support accreditation standards and program curricula. Qualifications

Education Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field required. Copy of transcript conferring required degree and certifications must accompany application. Experience 3 years directly related research or industry experience in the Medical Biotechnology industry required. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; strong computer skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively; sensitivity to students from diverse backgrounds and those with disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate in a learning-centered environment; self-discipline and ability to manage others.
