Overview
Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community service. Responsibilities
Teach courses in area(s) of competency using modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, online (synchronous or asynchronous), or any combination of modalities. Demonstrate skill and knowledge in the teaching discipline; continuously improve instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies and delivery methods. Develop and use a syllabus for each course in accordance with college, discipline, and departmental guidelines. Plan, develop, and use a variety of innovative teaching methods and materials to help students meet course objectives and outcomes, accommodating differing educational and experiential backgrounds. Evaluate students to measure progress toward objectives/outcomes and provide timely feedback. Maintain accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines. Review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks and learning materials. Teach at various times and locations to meet institutional and programmatic needs, including dual credit sections at partner districts. Teach in multiple modalities and responsibly use equipment and facilities; assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories where appropriate. Demonstrate competence and interest in using technology to support student learning and explore new instructional methodologies. Submit grades, attendance rosters, and other required items on time. Academic Advising: maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues; provide access to students via office hours and electronic communication; provide advice on instructional or program-specific issues. Make presentations on academic fields or programs, transfer opportunities, work experiences, scholarships, and related opportunities as needed, in collaboration with the program chair; participate in advising activities as needed by the college and department. Professional Development: establish annual objectives for growth, keep pace with developments in the discipline, apply innovative technologies, and participate in evaluation processes at multiple levels. Institutional and Community Service: participate in institutional activities, department/college/system meetings, and contribute to accreditation processes; engage in activities that foster goodwill and promote the college mission. Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Education (e.g., Teaching & Learning, Elementary or Secondary Teaching, Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, Gifted & Talented, Early Childhood or Bilingual Education) required. Master’s or higher with 18 completed graduate hours in qualifying fields preferred. Copy of transcript conferring required degree and certifications must accompany application. Experience: 3 years of full-time teaching experience in Pre-K through 12th grade required. 1 year of college-level teaching experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: ability to work in a diverse environment; willingness to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; computer proficiency; strong interpersonal and communication skills; good organizational and planning skills; sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and students with disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate students; self-discipline and ability to manage others.
