Relief (locum) Veterinarian position with pay range up to $140 per hour. The pay range listed reflects a general hiring range for the area; specific rate is based on experience, skill level, abilities, and education, and may vary by location.
Summary of Job Purpose and Function
The Relief Veterinarian provides preventative care, diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries in pets.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by using safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper medical records.
Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses or treatments, hospital services, and related information.
Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care and diagnosing/treating diseases and injuries.
Communicate diagnosis and treatment plan to the veterinary medical team and client.
Follow local, state and federal laws, including proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log.
Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians.
Other duties as assigned.

Part-time schedule may include weekends and evenings; more than 40 hours per week may be required.
Must have strong reasoning, memory, math and English language abilities.
Moderate noise level; may involve handling various hazards and medications.
Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb; capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
Good hand-eye coordination and vision; ability to use keyboard and equipment.
Travel minimal, if any, for vendor visits or associate education.
Experience, Education and/or Training
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board.
License with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required.
Proven ability to perform basic surgeries with standard instruments and equipment.
