Medical Assistant (32 Hours, Days) – OB/GYN at Boston Medical Center (BMC). Position: Medical Assistant Department: OB-GYN Clinic Schedule: Part Time, 32 Hours, Days Join to apply for the Medical Assistant (32 Hours, Days)(OB/GYN) role at Boston Medical Center (BMC). Responsibilities
Delivers care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is respectful to patients. Clinical Support: Under the direction of a licensed Nurse or Provider, performs delegated patient care interventions for patients and their families. Collaborates with the licensed Nurse/clinic manager as part of the interdisciplinary team to determine work assignments and priorities; maintains timely verbal communication about task status and patient data findings. Monitors patient flow, manages waiting room activity, and informs staff of patient arrival and wait times. Pre-visit chart review and preparation for upcoming visits; document patient care needs per clinic guidelines; enter orders for labs/tests as required. Greet patients, escort to exam room, and use appropriate medical terminology in documentation. Assist with intake, including verifying identifiers, collecting and documenting vital signs, medical history, allergies, medications, immunization history, and other information; update patient pharmacy information. Obtain and prepare materials, equipment, and supplies for visits; perform population health management screens and questionnaires; arrange refills pending provider approval; download device data for provider review. Identify emergencies and initiate appropriate response within scope of role; communicate with licensed nurse/physician as needed. Perform technical tasks within the scope of practice (e.g., phlebotomy, basic vital signs, wound care, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, etc.) and support minor procedures under supervision. Assist with dressing changes, minor procedures setup/breakdown, and sterile technique under supervision as required (e.g., pelvic exams, minor wound care, etc.). Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure complete and accurate documentation per department standards. Administrative support: assist with registration, scheduling, co-pay collection, and medical record management; ensure accurate data entry and timely updates. Support care team with population health outreach via registry data; remind patients of test/screening needs and prepare/disseminate patient education materials. Restock and maintain equipment and supplies; report broken/non-functional items to appropriate staff; manage supply orders as directed. Qualifications
HS diploma or GED plus one of the following: successful completion of a medical assistant program or completion of a medical-surgical clinical rotation or equivalent combination of education and healthcare experience. Experience: at least two years in a clinical setting is preferred. Knowledge and Skills: pass clinical competency testing; strong English reading/writing and basic math; excellent customer service and professional communication; strong organizational skills; ability to interpret medical terminology; ability to work independently and follow policies/procedures; basic computer skills; maintain confidentiality. Education & Experience
Education: HS diploma or GED; additional MA program or clinical rotation preferred. Experience: at least two years in a clinical setting preferred. Work Rules, Standards, And Competency
Maintain professional appearance and hospital ID; adapt to changing patient and unit needs; coordinate breaks with unit activities; uphold patient rights and hospital standards. Collaborate with nurse manager/clinic supervisor; participate in quality improvement and education activities; pursue ongoing education and maintain required certificates.
