5 North is a 26-bed General Surgery specialty unit. We are categorized as a Med-Surg Unit but are primarily surgical volume. We specialize in: Elective bariatric weight loss surgery; General Surgery (appendectomies, cholecystectomies, small bowel obstruction, etc.); Ortho (Foot and ankle, as well as ortho hand, and some ortho trauma); Urology surgery. Nurses gain experience in drains, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, DHT, continuous bladder irrigation, and other surgical care aspects. Atrium Health Mercy is a 196-bed facility focused on seniors care and complex foot and ankle, hip/knee, bariatric, and women\'s pelvic health. It is Magnet designated in Nursing Excellence and Planetree designated for patient-centered care. Job Profile Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered care through evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and compassionate care delivery. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, advocates for patient needs, and upholds professional practice standards. Major Responsibilities

Engages in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, engaging patients and families from admission to post-discharge. Monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence care outcomes. Upholds and promotes a culture of safety. Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed. Administers medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures. Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation. Pursues professional development, completes required education, and maintains certifications. Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics and practices ethical decision-making, respects interdisciplinary roles, and contributes to integrated, unbiased patient care. Appropriate delegation to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse assistants, and other unlicensed assistive personnel. Maintains accurate, timely EHR documentation. May be required to float to other units, departments, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care; understand growth and development principles and interpret data relevant to patient age-specific needs. Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required

Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional certifications may be required based on specialty. Active, unrestricted RN license (multi-state compact and/or single-state) with privileges to practice where nursing services are provided. Note: Telehealth/telenursing licensure must align with the client location states. Education Required

Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program. Experience Required

No formal RN experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking. Time management, prioritization and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Proficiency with electronic health records and computer systems. Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently. Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds; assist with moving patients and equipment. Push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform transfers with assistance as needed. Must have functional hearing, vision, speech, and dexterity for patient care and procedures. May be exposed to chemical hazards, blood, and body fluids; use protective gear as required. May require Physical Abilities Testing; department-specific requirements may apply. Education Preferred
