Overview

The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional through a full-time, structured, 14-20 week paid orientation to the field of Oncology Nursing. The James is an National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and a home to pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment in a dynamic university hospital setting. The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who schedules and facilitates the residency experience, revises the orientation pathway, and evaluates progress with input from the multidisciplinary team and the resident’s self-evaluation. New Graduate Nurse Residency positions are available in the following areas: Hematology Medical Oncology Surgical Oncology Progressive Care/Step Down (PCU) Responsibilities

The Staff Nurse functions as a member of a care team, providing patient care and supportive services aimed at achieving positive patient outcomes, maximizing patient involvement in the plan of care, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. Responsibilities include assessing, prescribing, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating nursing care; prioritizing patient care needs; and providing leadership and development for the patient care team. Qualifications

Graduate from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited nursing program required Current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the Ohio Board of Nursing required Previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred Program Details
