Job Summary
Responsible for providing accurate information related to the practice of cytological screening. Examines all gynecologic and non‑gynecologic cytology specimens, evaluates adequacy, marks abnormal findings, and submits final patient reports to the pathologist. Maintains compliance with all regulatory, certification, and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
Perform independent microscopic examination of all specimens; assess adequacy and identify abnormal findings.
Generate final patient reports on all negative gynecologic specimens for the pathologist.
Assist pathologists and physicians with fine‑needle aspirations and other specimen preparations, using independent judgment for optimal preparation.
Provide information to physicians and nursing personnel regarding interpretation of results.
Conduct correlation studies of discordant cytologic and histologic results and maintain documentation of reviews.
Stay current in the field by attending meetings and seminars for continuing education.
Teach new personnel and provide information to other hospital staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (required).
Cytotechnologist membership in the International Academy of Cytology or American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Certification as a CT (ASCP) or equivalent.
State of Ohio licensure.
