Introduction: Are you a Registered Nurse looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the public sector? The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) seeks a Nurse to join the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) Inpatient Unit in New Haven. CMHC is an urban community mental health center with a 50-year tradition serving individuals with serious mental illness and/or addiction. A comprehensive medical examination, including a drug screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment. All state employees must adhere to Connecticut’s Drug Free Workplace policy. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS: Full-Time (40 Hours), Third Shift. Schedule details are discussed in the interview. General Experience: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Preferred Experience: Experience in a Mental Health facility; experience working in a multidisciplinary team. Special Requirements: Connecticut Registered Nurse license or temporary permit; possible language or ASL proficiency requirements; travel may be required. Working Conditions: May lift and restrain individuals; exposure to communicable diseases; risk of injury from assault; other disagreeable conditions. Responsibilities
Independently implements the nursing process; carries out physician orders regarding diet, medication and treatment; performs assessments; changes dressings; monitors and evaluates patient status. Documents nursing interventions; maintains controlled substances security; maintains records; makes routine decisions; educates patients, families and staff about treatments and care plans. Responds to emergencies; ensures availability of medications and supplies; maintains equipment and environment cleanliness. Participates on interdisciplinary treatment teams; may develop and implement nursing care plans; may participate in outpatient clinics and assist in physical examinations. May perform various nursing tasks, supervise others as appropriate, and provide related medical or mental health services. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, ethics; pharmacology and interactions; nursing interventions and models; cultural sensitivity; interdisciplinary care; strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to model professional behavior, develop therapeutic relationships, respond to emergencies, and work with supervision as needed.
