Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Circle of Life, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming. Ensure products are easy to see and buy; build sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests; provide a clean, organized environment in which to shop; and grow guest loyalty and repeat business. Supervise Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager. Provide best-in-class guest service: promptly greet guests; respond to guest questions/concerns quickly and courteously; inform guests of promotions; recommend additional items; apply selling behaviors during every transaction; and thank every guest for shopping at GameStop. Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business. Process guest purchases/returns accurately using POS; provide receipts and ensure top-notch guest service. Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate. Promote GameStop’s guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations program, trade-in program, Pro Rewards). Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations for store associates and training staff on policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines. Observe associate performance; provide feedback; address unsatisfactory performance as directed; ensure alignment with company and store guest service expectations. Provide recognition and feedback to associates; input written feedback into Workday/HR system in partnership with the Store Manager. Ensure associates complete onboarding and training prior to shifts; know all job responsibilities, policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocols, and ethical responsibilities. Schedule store associates, ensure breaks and meals, supervise staffing levels, and ensure best-in-class guest service consistently. Approve payroll, manage paid time off, and verify pay for time worked. Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per guidelines; ensure fixtures and equipment are in proper working order. Ensure Omni-Channel orders are fulfilled and shipped daily. Protect assets through inventory control and loss prevention; conduct checks at closing or end of shift as appropriate; communicate concerns to the Store Manager. Support the store team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative and operational duties. Perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure products are represented and organized on the sales floor. Count, balance, and reconcile daily transaction totals; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits per guidelines. Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and report issues to the Store Manager/District Manager. Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls; ensure proper labeling and packing lists. Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; address potentially hazardous situations; report injuries per guidelines. Help maintain store records/files and ensure manuals are up to date. Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager. Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct. Adhere to opening/closing procedures. Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States. Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Possess an outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills. Provide genuine and individualized assistance to every guest during every visit. Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication and listening skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment; work independently and as part of a team. Meet performance expectations including attendance, appearance, safety, and respectful workplace. Operate POS system and possess basic mathematics and alphabetizing skills. Complete required paperwork properly and follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Drive flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and some holidays; minimum 3 days/week availability. Remain reliable, trustworthy, and able to work alone; stand/move for extended periods; lift up to 30 lbs.; ability to bend/stretch as required. Experience with onboarding concepts (military base stores where applicable).
