It safeguards and preserves the lives and property of citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation while caring for all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.
Description of Work NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000 SIGN ON BONUS! To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, you must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months. Hires with a start date prior to July 1, 2025 are eligible for a $7,000 Sign On Bonus; all hires with a start date on July 1, 2025, or after are eligible for a $3,000 Sign On Bonus. This position is also eligible for an Applicant Referral Bonus ($1,000).
Salary Range per Classification
Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 - $57,117
Correctional Food Service Officer II: $34,270 - $59,973
Correctional Food Service Officer III: $35,984 - $62,971
Responsibilities
Supervise offenders in food preparation and food service work areas, including cooking, baking, and serving food to the offender population.
Provide training and oversight to offenders in assigned kitchen and food service work areas.
Maintain all food service equipment and uphold menu specifications.
Ensure sanitary food handling practices and nutritional knowledge support meal planning and preparation.
Manage inventory levels of all food and supplies, timely ordering of food products and cleaning supplies.
Adhere to instructions, spoken or written, while managing computer data accurately.
Minimum Education And Experience High school or GED diploma and:
Correctional Food Service Officer I – one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services or equivalent.
Correctional Food Service Officer II – two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services or equivalent.
Correctional Food Service Officer III – three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services or equivalent.
Required Certification Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Work Schedule This is a full-time position. Employees must be able to work any shift, including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
