Overview
Correctional Food Service Officer I, II, III (Statewide) NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000 SIGN ON BONUS. Hires with a start date prior to July 1, 2025 are eligible for a $7,000 Sign On Bonus. All hires with a start date on July 1, 2025, or after are eligible for a $3,000 Sign On Bonus. This position is also eligible for the Applicant Referral Bonus ($1,000). Salary ranges per Classification: Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 - $57,117; Correctional Food Service Officer II: $34,270 - $59,973; Correctional Food Service Officer III: $35,984 - $62,971. Work is statewide in correctional facilities, supervising offenders performing large-scale food production and food service operations. Effective communication, adherence to instructions, and accurate management of computer data are essential. Responsibilities include maintaining food service equipment, understanding menu specifications, ensuring sanitary food handling practices, knowledge of nutritional values, and managing inventory and ordering of food products and cleaning supplies. Work schedule is full-time with shifts that may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime. State benefits are provided. Responsibilities
Supervise offenders in food preparation and food service work areas (cooking, baking, serving food). Provide food production training and oversee daily operations in large-scale food service environments within a correctional facility. Maintain sanitation, equipment, inventory levels, and timely ordering of supplies. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and manage related data accurately. Adhere to menu specifications and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Qualifications
Correctional Food Service Officer I: High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Correctional Food Service Officer II: High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Trainee eligibility with one year of experience may apply with salary adjustments as per policy. Correctional Food Service Officer III: High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Other Information
