Overview
Correctional Food Service Officer I, II, III (Statewide) This position is open to Correctional Food Service Officer I, II, and III levels statewide. It includes responsibilities for supervising offenders in large-scale food production and food service operations within a correctional facility, as well as managing food preparation, service, and related operations. Description of Work
Salary ranges per classification are listed below. This position may include a sign-on bonus and an applicant referral bonus as described by the State policy. Sign-on bonus information: NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000 SIGN-ON BONUS; hires with a start date prior to July 1, 2025 are eligible for a $7,000 Sign On Bonus. All hires with a start date on July 1, 2025, or after are eligible for a $3,000 Sign On Bonus. The position is also eligible for the Applicant Referral Bonus ($1,000). Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 - $57,117 Correctional Food Service Officer II: $34,270 - $59,973 Correctional Food Service Officer III: $35,984 - $62,971 Responsibilities
Supervise offenders performing large-scale food production and food service operations at a correctional institution/facility. Oversee the food preparation and clean-up team within the food service department; prioritize effective verbal and written communication; adhere to instructions; manage computer data accurately. Maintain food service equipment, understand menu specifications, ensure sanitary handling practices, and understand nutritional values to support meal planning and preparation. Manage inventory levels, rotate supplies, and ensure timely ordering of food products and cleaning supplies. Provide food production training and supervise offenders in assigned food preparation and food service work areas (cooking, baking, serving). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Qualifications
Correctional Food Service Officer I: High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Correctional Food Service Officer II: High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Trainee options may apply with different qualifications; must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Correctional Food Service Officer III: High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
