Independent Contractor Responsibilities

Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner. Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions. Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations. Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment. Respect for and understanding of LEP clients, culture, dialects, beliefs, and preferences. Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting. Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation and enunciation, with polite expressions. Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol. Qualifications

Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English (source and target language). Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or national certification. Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC). Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferred Qualifications

Ability to read and write in the requested languages. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices. National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS. Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
