Claims Attorney
(or seasoned
Claims Adjuster
with litigation oversight experience) to join our team. This role focuses on managing and overseeing outside counsel handling a high volume of litigation matters, primarily involving
premises liability
and
motor vehicle accident
claims in
New York . The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation management skills, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of 100+ litigated claims handled by outside counsel on behalf of the Company.
Conduct thorough case reviews and enter detailed updates in the case management system.
Maintain an active diary system for case milestones and required follow-ups.
Work closely with outside counsel and internal investigators to:
Develop and evaluate case strategy
Recommend and coordinate further investigation
Identify opportunities for early resolution
Review and comment on:
Motions
Settlement demands
Mediation statements
Prepare and present internal settlement requests, including justification and analysis.
Make informed reserve recommendations based on liability exposure and damages evaluations.
Review and approve outside counsel legal bills for compliance with billing guidelines.
Collaborate with the outside counsel management team to ensure consistent handling and efficient case resolution.
Maintain professional and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
JD or equivalent legal training; admission to the NY Bar preferred but not mandatory.
Alternatively,
experienced claims professionals
with substantial litigation oversight experience will be considered.
Minimum of
5+ years
managing general liability litigation, including both liability and non-liability matters.
Strong knowledge of
New York legal procedures , claims valuation, and settlement negotiations.
Demonstrated ability to:
Manage high-volume case portfolios independently
Review and analyze legal documents and pleadings
Set accurate
claim reserves
and evaluate
settlement value
Technologically proficient : experience with
case management systems , Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and related tools.
Exceptional
written and verbal communication
skills.
Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.
Contract Details
Full-time : ~40 hours per week
Contract length : 12 months minimum with potential for renewal
Work setup : Remote; must be authorized to work in the U.S.
