– Department of Orthopedics Job Title: Instructor - Adult Weekend Floor PA/NP - Spine, Adult Reconstruction, Oncology & Sports Position #00828933 - Requisition #35525 Location: Aurora, CO (University of Colorado Hospital at the Anschutz Medical Campus) This is a full-time exempt (non-hourly) Instructor - Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner position in the Department of Orthopedics providing weekend coverage for the Spine, Adult Reconstruction, Oncology and Sports sections of Orthopedics. The position is not eligible for tenure. The work schedule is weekend-based (Friday–Monday, 6/7 am – 4 pm).
Responsibilities
Obtain detailed histories and perform physical examinations on assigned patients; assess and treat acute/chronic musculoskeletal problems; provide direct patient care; write prescriptions for medications and related therapies; complete forms and work notes as needed.
Assist in pre-op and post-op care; write appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs.
Perform emergency lifesaving procedures as needed.
Notify attending physician on call, house physician on call, or supervising physician regarding unusual or unexpected events requiring direct consultation.
Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
Coordinate activities of patient care and support staff with various clinics.
Write progress notes in office and hospital charts; maintain required records.
Provide health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, and other Advanced Practice Provider or health professional students.
Engage in professional growth through educational programs, literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Participate in educational programs (conferences, journal clubs) if interested.
Assist in community outreach as interested (talks, planning, attendance).
Develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and postoperative care.
Assist in preparing and delivering PowerPoint and poster presentations for institutional, local and national meetings if interested.
Become proficient in documentation and use of the current electronic medical record; serve as a resource to other health care providers.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Demonstrate flexibility as the position evolves with increasing knowledge and experience in Orthopedic Adult Reconstruction.
Work Location & Schedule This position works the weekend, Friday–Monday, 6/7 am–4 pm, primarily located at the University of Colorado Hospital at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.
Minimum Qualifications
State of Colorado Certified Physician's Assistant or inclusion on the State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as an Advanced Practice Provider; Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience preferred; may include training new graduates with hospital/orthopedic experience or exceptional qualities.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; certification pending as documented by temporary certificate.
6 months to 1 year of directly related experience to duties and responsibilities.
