Instructor, Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus – Department: Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology Job Title: Instructor • Position #:00839615 • Requisition #:37670 Job Summary: Provides outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital for the Liver & NET Oncology Multidisciplinary Program. Functions under the supervision of attending physicians and surgeons; coordinates, triages, and organizes patient flow and conducts patient visits. Serves as primary coordinator for the Liver & NET Oncology Multidisciplinary Program, including a weekly clinic/conference with surgical, medical, and radiation oncology specialists. Provides back-up coverage to other multidisciplinary clinics as needed. Responsibilities
Advisement of patient scheduling based on disease concerns. Ensure all specialty providers are staffed in clinic each week. Review medical records to determine if a patient is appropriate for clinic. Request outside diagnostic tests and pathology/cytology as needed. Generate weekly lists of patients to be discussed at conference. Order and interpret labs or diagnostic tests required prior to multidisciplinary review. Prescribe medications as needed, including pre-procedure medications. Conduct peer-to-peer review or write medical necessity letters with insurers for pre-authorization of tests as appropriate. Communicate with referring physicians regarding patient referrals. Independently perform age-appropriate history and physical examinations for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients (invasive exams such as rectal exams deferred to attending). Send new patient letters to referring physicians using the EPIC system. Independently see patients in follow-up as needed. Collaborate with team after conference to finalize patient plans and assist with ordering tests and referrals as needed. Maintain accurate and efficient documentation in the EPIC system. Communicate with referring physicians/PCPs about additional medical issues or referrals. Coordinate with the surgeon's office to facilitate perioperative management and OR scheduling as needed. Coordinate with medical/radiation oncology offices to facilitate oncologic treatment as needed. Provide educational tools to support staff, patients, and families in decision-making. Provide information on hospital resources as needed. Participate in research in alignment with faculty expectations and track patient outcomes/data. Assist with database accuracy and management; comply with hospital protocols/standards. Attend departmental meetings regularly and participate in Liver Oncology program development (e.g., input to institutional Liver Oncology website and community outreach). Work onsite in Aurora, CO. Minimum qualifications for NP:
MSN from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Current APRN licensure by a national professional organization Current RN licensure in Colorado Admission to the Advanced Practice Registry of the Colorado Board of Nursing Prescriptive authority At least 1 year of experience as a licensed NP Current ACLS certification Minimum qualifications for PA:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program Authorized to practice in Colorado Prescriptive authority At least 1 year of experience as a licensed PA Current ACLS certification Preferred Qualifications
DNP preferred for NPs Surgical Oncology/Liver Cancer experience preferred (not required) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
