The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers sales growth in hair and skin services. The ASM supports the Experience Manager (EM) and is accountable for all aspects of the services business, including sales, events, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence while also providing guest services in the salon. Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Performance
Perform salon hair services, makeup applications, skin care analysis, and product demonstrations. Achieve individual productivity goals each week. Promote a culture of accountability to meet store goals for service and merchandise sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink. Drive profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control. Support planning and execution of services events and brand partner collaboration. Review, analyze, and react to Ulta Beauty’s financial and operational reporting regularly. Address underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve service sales. Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits. Maintain attendance policy and hold services associates accountable. People
Support attraction, hiring, and retention of a diverse team of service professionals. Build a highly engaged team and foster open communication and coaching. Train, coach, and develop services professionals using company programs and resources. Create an inclusive environment that inspires growth and engagement. Support associate professional development, including training and individualized plans. Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships. Promote a culture of service excellence across the leadership team. Process
Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Regularly review and react to all company communication in a timely manner. Adhere to and enforce the dress code. Manage salon supply inventory and ordering process within budget. Use the task management tool to prioritize store workload, including product and marketing resets, pricing updates, inventory tasks, cleaning, and replenishment. Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting workplace safety, inventory control, and loss prevention standards. Support continuous improvement by influencing adoption of initiatives and technology. Support scheduling of service associates to optimize traffic patterns and productivity. Job Qualifications
Education
Cosmetology school graduate Cosmetology license and/or cosmetology management license where required by state law Experience
2-3+ years relevant, fast‑paced salon management work experience or other relevant work experience Demonstrated knowledge of state board of cosmetology regulations and hiring requirements Developing financial management: success with driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expense Developing leadership management: experience with attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, adapting to change and influencing others through the change curve Skills
Proficiency with latest salon techniques for performing haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing services (where applicable) and/or an aptitude to develop skills and capabilities in all service categories. Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Point of Sale system, Microsoft Office programs, and Apple devices) Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable. Work a flexible, full‑time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays Attend corporate business meetings and conferences Work under continuous mobility, standing, bending, reaching, and twisting during shift Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies About
