A commercial real estate development and construction company is seeking a
Controller
to lead accounting operations and provide financial oversight for the organization. This role manages the accounting team, oversees reporting, and supports both project-level and corporate decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze financial statements, general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, and budgets
Review and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintain balance sheet schedules
Reconcile, verify, and validate all entries and postings to balance sheet and income statement accounts
Manage journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
Assist in managing working capital, including weekly project cash reports and initiating/recording transfers and wires
Assemble, submit, and track equity funding or loan draws
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
Contribute to developing new accounting procedures and strategies to improve record-keeping, investor reporting, and project management
Complete forecasting and analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of job cost reports
Partner with development directors to effectively manage project budgets
Lead and mentor accounting staff
Support audits and compliance activities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA preferred but not required
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership
Strong knowledge of journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting
Proficiency in Sage or similar ERP/accounting software
Construction industry background is a plus
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
