EMEIA Indirect Tax Compliance - Manager

Our indirect tax compliance professionals support large multinational clients with their indirect tax obligations in EMEIA and globally. Indirect tax compliance is central to our operations and is complemented by VAT advisory and technology support, coordinated with our specialist teams. We operate with a client-centric approach, organizing professionals per client rather than per country or region to maximize knowledge of the client’s business.

Join our fast growing Indirect Tax Compliance and Reporting team as a Manager in Hungary and work on EY's largest multi-country client engagements. We deploy strong multi-skilled teams across countries and service lines with major hubs in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Romania and Hungary.
Responsibilities
As a Manager, you will be working on a selection of clients where you are the "VAT controller" for the VAT/GST compliance outsourced to EY, including:
Act as central point of contact - liaise with international clients and colleagues regarding regional and global VAT and VAT compliance.
Monitor and provide feedback on the quality of clients' indirect tax data (using AI and other technologies) and client reports.
Review and approve indirect tax returns, and identify ways to maximise cash for clients.
Follow up on legislative and business changes to ensure client systems and processes are updated.
Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve VAT compliance processes and client data.
Coordinate VAT compliance advisory, technology, controversy and audit support.
Coordinate with other VAT controllers and report to the client's Process Owner at EY (Senior Manager or above).
Supervise, coach and lead team members.
Broaden the relationship network with existing clients and participate in commercial initiatives with Senior Managers or Partners.
Proactively communicate and collaborate with other sub-service lines and identify cross-selling opportunities.
Propose improvement possibilities to raise effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
Potential short- to medium-term secondments to client sites based in the home country.
Strategic initiatives
Process: design innovative compliance solutions, including AI and generative AI; regulatory monitoring, etc.
Technology: automation, AI, data analytics, dashboarding, etc.
People: wellbeing initiatives, training programs, mentoring and team development, recruitment, etc.
Go to market: positioning of new services and solutions, marketing of existing services, etc.
Qualifications and experience
Relevant professional experience in EMEIA and/or APAC VAT/GST compliance, VAT Reporting or Accountancy, including reconciliations, either in industry or with other service providers.
Experience in data interrogation.
Experience in, or an interest and curiosity in AI.
Basic understanding of other compliance activities such as statutory accounting and corporate tax compliance.
Understanding of IT-systems and VAT/GST reporting solutions.
Fluency in English - written and spoken. Any additional language is an asset.
Excellent communication across cultures and within a virtual working environment.
