Job Description
Maximizes the organization's return on financial assets by establishing procedures, controls and financial policies to safeguard assets and maintain integrity of finances. Oversees accounting functions, its operations and internal controls and takes ownership of financial reporting. Develops and maintains an in depth understanding of the organization, its business strategies and related technical and management accounting requirements. Qualifications
• Execute preparation and analysis of financial statements, including knowledge of technical accounting issues and disclosure requirements. • Liaise with external auditors and other applicable parties during annual and regulatory examinations. • Deliver accurate and timely month end reporting; prepare regular and ad-hoc analysis for key stakeholders including presentations for Executive Management and the Board of Directors. • Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual closing process. Manage and monitor cash flow. • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements and anticipate future legislation, advising Senior Management on necessary actions. • Evaluate and oversee existing chart of accounts and system of internal controls, re-designing as necessary, and ensuring that transactional systems and GL are aligned. • Oversee reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll, and tax filings (back up withholding, 1099, 1042s, payroll taxes, etc.). • Establish and maintain internal control system to ensure the integrity of data and ensure accurate record keeping. • Understand reporting requirements for loan originations, mortgage servicing rights, allowance and loan losses, participations, commitments, loan sales, deposits, AFS, HTM, pension valuation, fixed assets and expenses, as well as distilling emerging accounting issues, and opine on its organizational relevance and impact. • Understand and measure the drivers that influence the overall decision making required to achieve the credit union’s strategic goals. • Involvement in a broad range of projects and initiatives. • Monitor, coach, evaluate, motivate, and develop direct reports and create a climate where teamwork can flourish; prepare staff evaluations on time and Individual Development Plans; identify training needs of the department. • Establish performance requirements and personal development targets for staff; regularly communicating progress while providing continuous coaching. • Implement lean processes with clear procedures to increase the qualitative output and talent of the team. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 10 years experience as a Controller or equivalent position • MBA and/or CPA preferred • Must have experience in budgeting and management accounting, in addition to the Call Report, FR2900, and fielding inquiries from regulators and auditors • Up-to-date with emerging issues in accounting and finance, and possess a desire to understand the operations and value of credit unions • Exceptional skills in internal controls, GL management and variance analysis • Familiarity with system conversions and ability to be “hands-on” when required • Capability to balance creativity and discipline to design simple and frictionless workflows • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint • Familiarity with Great Plains, Axiom, Concur, Intellimatch, QuickBooks, and/or Ultimate Software (UltiPro Payroll) Additional Information
