Accountant I or II. This role provides the opportunity to gain government accounting experience, build competence, develop analytical skills, and begin a long-term career with the State. The State offers accounting opportunities at this level that begin to build solid knowledge of procedures, policies, laws and regulations and how they apply to the various State functions/audit entities while operating in a team oriented environment.
Responsibilities
assist in the year-end accrual process; complete the preparation cash management reports; track and monitor expenditures including providing statistical information and analysis; review payments and financial documents; drawdown of Federal Funds; help test and learn the new ERP accounting system from the ground floor.
Education/Experience
for the A1 classification a 4-year Accounting Degree, coursework in accounting, or seasoned vocational accounting practitioner who has familiarity with accounting principles is required; for the A2 classification a 4 year accounting degree and 1-2 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 1 accountant is required.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
knowledge of Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), practices, and standards; knowledge of the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other applicable accounting software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
interpret and comprehend program guidelines and procedures; communicate both effectively; gather, interpret, report, and use information concerning assigned activities.
