Overview
The System Designer II will provide design, engineering, modeling, drafting, and budgeting support for projects across the organization and all North American geographies. They will assist Design Group Leadership and colleagues in building company design standards, templates, blocks, families, details, and processes. Roles & Responsibilities
Coordinate with customers (end users, architects, construction managers, general contractors, electrical engineers, and others) to understand needs and perform detailed designs of Low Voltage technology systems such as Cabling, Security, Audio Visual, and DAS. A System Designer may specialize in one Low Voltage trade, but cross training across disciplines is expected. Attend and host meetings on behalf of Paladin. Take and distribute accurate notes, follow up on action items, and communicate commitments. Coordinate with estimators and engineers across North America to develop project budgets, technical design requirements, and scopes of work for all sub-disciplines of Low Voltage Technology Systems. Coordinate with the Sales team and other project sponsors to understand client and project needs and to ensure the best possible client experience. Prepare detailed budgets using technical estimating resources where necessary. Perform electronic takeoffs using Bluebeam as directed. Manage assigned projects including billing, cash flow, cost projections, and schedule management. Create technology systems flow line diagrams, security riser diagrams, door details, mounting diagrams, and network diagrams. Perform the Designer’s own drafting and modeling using Autodesk CAD and Revit as needed. Coordinate with Paladin’s Drafters and BIM Modelers to provide CAD requests, feedback, and guidance for drafting and modeling work performed by the VDC team. Provide supplemental peer reviews of designs and documentation as directed. Participate in internal and external kickoff meetings to support transitions from design to build phases. Perform construction administration on design projects as assigned. Provide advice and support to estimators, engineers, project managers, and other Paladin employees when requested. Provide professional support to existing or potential customers via phone, email, text, or in person. Required Qualifications
5+ years of design experience 5+ years of experience in the low voltage or technology industries Preferred Qualifications
Competency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), MS Teams, MS Projects, and related design software RCDD, CTS, PSP or other Low Voltage Design Certifications (highly preferred) Demonstrated Professional Competencies
Effectively manage multiple communications platforms and maintain professional collaboration (email, MS Teams, etc.) Increase AV & Security Systems knowledge periodically throughout the year Increase Networking knowledge periodically throughout the year Maintain and increase industry certifications (CTS, CSPM, etc.) Maintain current knowledge of voice/data cabling systems Stay current with product offerings for Video Management, AV control and distribution, cameras, access control, and other low voltage components Develop strong communication and soft skills (approachability, listening, adaptability, interpersonal skills) Physical Demands
Must be able to communicate clearly (see, hear, speak, write) and have the dexterity for occasional handling of small objects and operating office equipment. Working Conditions
