The HIM ROI Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of scanning patient medical records into the electronic record. Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical records: determine records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Receive, place and transfer calls as appropriate. Greet visitors. Assist with patients calling for verbal authorization forms and send records per their request. Process continuing of care records and patient requests in a timely manner. Scan and log medical record requests into ROI database. Assist with daily mail distribution. Apply state and federal rules pertaining to release of protected health information and comply with all HIPAA policies and confidentiality rules. Properly dispose of scanned ROI requests after 30 days in accordance with department and organization policy. Routinely meet department productivity standards and complete productivity reports as required. Maintain an accuracy standard of 98% or higher for releasing medical records. Engage in daily problem-solving; take initiative to find solutions; use a team approach to problem-solving and, when warranted, an independent approach. Qualifications
