Overview Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Federally Qualified Health Center Controller will work closely with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Administration, and all other applicable departments for the development of reimbursement strategies. They will collaborate with the Finance Department, including financial analysts, accountants, revenue cycle analysts, and the operations team, to ensure departmental goals are met.

The Controller will lead all financial activities, including accounting, financial forecasting, reporting, payor contract management, and control/monitoring of financial functions. They will oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and budgets, and act as a liaison between department heads regarding budget reports. Additional responsibilities include audits, revenue cycle management, reimbursement, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Controller will exemplify the organization’s values and mission.

Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities

Collaborate with CFO and department heads to plan and monitor budgets and fiscal integrity.

Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring accuracy.

Establish benchmarks for performance measurement.

Ensure timely closing of financial records and accuracy of reports.

Monitor operating results against budgets and collaborate on improvement strategies.

Oversee daily finance department operations.

Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and prepare necessary reports.

Oversee General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Reimbursement, and Payroll departments.

Prepare data for Medicaid and Medicare cost reports.

Ensure compliance with GAAP standards.

Develop long-term business plans and departmental goals.

Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and reconcile accounts monthly.

Direct financial audits and recommend procedural improvements.

Develop financial procedures, including payroll.

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, including knowledge of 340B programs.

Monitor cash flow and oversee investment activities.

Oversee annual audits and reimbursement processes.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Controller should understand the organization’s mission, have advanced computer skills, and be able to analyze financial data effectively. Familiarity with nonprofit regulations, IRS reporting, grant reporting, and medical reporting is essential.

Minimum Qualifications BA in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration; CPA or MBA; 10 years of high-level accounting experience or 3-5 years with a CPA firm; direct experience with nonprofits.
