Overview
Location: 9 Farm Springs Rd, Farmington, CT 10566. The Financial Counseling Specialist supports the Self-Pay department, helping patients with ability to pay, coverage, financial assistance, free bed funds, and/or payment plans. The department maintains a call center for providers, patients, and customers. In a multi-entity hospital and professional office environment, the Financial Counseling Specialist is responsible for analysis, investigation and resolution of patient balances, ensuring self-pay receivables and free bed funds are processed and resolved according to department policies and regulatory guidelines. Position Responsibilities
Processes requests for Financial Assistance according to policies and procedures. Approves requests within defined thresholds. Processes self-pay refunds, payments, payment plans and transfers. Performs pre-bad debt screening (reviews accounts for Medicaid Eligibility and/or bad debt vs. charity care). Updates insurance information on patient accounts that is obtained after the visit is completed. Processes and takes action on Return Mail, Closed/Return Accounts, Bankruptcies, Attorney Requests, Settlements, and other patient correspondence. Reports To

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required. Associate\'s Degree preferred. Experience
Minimum of 2–4 years of self-pay billing and/or collections experience with a hospital, professional office, or healthcare vendor. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a multi-entity system with EPIC. Experience with Medicaid Eligibility and Financial Assistance Programs. Licensure, Certification, Registration
HBI Patient Financial Services Certified is preferred, but not required. Language Skills
English, Spanish and/or Polish. Knowledge, Skills And Ability Requirements
Maintains thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws and HHC policies regarding Financial Assistance and Self-Pay Collections. Models teamwork through cooperation and collaboration within and outside the work group. Ability to work in a high volume setting with multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Proficient in the use of a computer. Critical thinking skills. Ability to attain productivity and quality standards per department requirements.
