ESC has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a

Controller

with the ambition and capability to evolve into a future

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) . This role will begin as a

hands-on financial leader , overseeing accounting and core financial operations, while also building a strong foundation to take on broader strategic responsibilities over time. The position will work hybrid (3 days/week in office) in Hartford, WI. Initially, the Controller will manage the company’s

financial reporting, accounting, HR, payroll, and benefits functions , primarily through third-party service providers. As the company grows, this position will expand to include direct team leadership and higher-level strategic finance responsibilities. trusted advisor to the CEO

and shaping the long-term success of the organization. Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Accounting Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including general accounting, payroll, HR administration, and benefits. Manage relationships with third-party accounting, payroll, and benefits service providers. Maintain company bank accounts, credit facilities and treasury functions. Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and management reports. Monitor AP/AR and cash flow to ensure strong liquidity and working capital management. Strategic & Growth-Oriented Finance (Development Area) Partner with the CEO on strategic initiatives, including capital investments, acquisitions, and facility optimization. Provide ROI analysis and financial modeling to support decision-making. Establish KPIs and dashboards to track performance and drive efficiency. Gain exposure to acquisition integration and business transaction processes, with mentorship to prepare for CFO-level leadership. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements. Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies. Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred). 7–10 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing, retail, or distribution. Hands-on operational finance experience in small to mid-sized businesses. Exposure to mergers and acquisitions, integrations, or other strategic transactions is a strong plus. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial best practices. Clear communicator with leadership potential, eager to grow into an executive role. Personal Attributes
