Overview
One of Vaco's growing PE-backed clients is looking for a Controller to lead the accounting function and play a key role in building scalable processes and systems to support growth. This highly visible, Arlington-based position reports directly to the CFO of the parent company. The Controller will oversee a small team (2-3 direct reports) and own all day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys improving processes, and wants to make an impact. You\'ll have direct access to executive leadership, exposure to private equity, and the opportunity to grow into broader finance responsibilities under experienced mentors. Base pay range
$130,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, month/quarter/year-end close, and sales tax. Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP. Build, document, and improve accounting processes, SOPs, and internal controls. Oversee inventory accounting and ensure accuracy in financial reporting. Manage, mentor, and develop a small accounting team to strengthen capability and scalability. Partner with the President and operations team to support strategic initiatives and decision-making. Support M&A activity, integration, and alignment with the parent company\'s finance organization. Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and tax advisors. Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership. Implement process improvements and system enhancements to improve efficiency. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations. Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred. Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles. Public accounting experience strongly preferred. Background in small to mid-size companies ($30M-$100M revenue) required; inventory experience a plus. Exposure to private equity-backed environments preferred. Proven experience building and implementing accounting processes and SOPs. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; capable of mentoring and motivating teams. Detail-oriented, adaptable, and process-driven with strong analytical skills. Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel. Additional information
