Continuous Description This is a pool to fill part-time instructor positions for face-to-face, on-ground courses at Ventura College for the Fall 2025 semester. WHERE YOU'LL WORK Ventura College is a public community college established in 1925 with an enrollment of about 14,500 students. The campus is located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. The 112-acre campus sits in the rolling hills of Ventura with views of the Channel Islands from several locations. More information can be found on the Ventura College website. WHAT YOU'LL DO The Department of Performing Arts seeks an accomplished performing artist and educator for a part-time faculty position teaching face-to-face acting and theatre courses. Due to the College's proximity to the Los Angeles area, a successful candidate should have a strong professional resume in stage, film, and/or television. The ideal candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of acting, demonstrate strong leadership, enjoy teaching at the community college level, and be able to recruit and mentor a diverse student population. Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non-Contract/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate academic or vocational objectives. In accordance with Education Code sections 87482.5, Instructors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment. Representative Duties Provide academic instruction through lectures, labs, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking through assignments in classroom and other instructional settings. Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, transfer options, and study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate. Observe and evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on inquiries, class or online meetings, and office hours. Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes; align with department, college, and district goals. Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and outcomes; prepare data and reports timely. Evaluate and select instructional materials; order materials to ensure timely delivery. Revise and update course content with new theory and industry developments; update syllabi and assess measurable outcomes. Participate in curriculum development and attend meetings; may participate in articulation and matriculation activities. May provide work direction to others; perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators handbook. Requirements include: Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance, or Bachelor's or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance and a Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities; or Equivalent qualifications or possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline. All coursework must be from an accredited college or university. Foreign transcripts require evaluation if coursework is from a non-accredited foreign institution. Equivalency: The district recognizes that candidates may qualify through alternative experiences. Detailed guidance and an Equivalency Supplemental Questionnaire are available if transcripts do not exactly match the listed degree titles.
