JR4688**Job Description****Position Summary:**Reporting to the Head Librarian for Access Services & Archivist, the Library Assistant provides assistance for users at the Library Services desk and supports the overall daily activities of the Access Services Team. Duties include assisting in the oversight of circulation operations, general technology support (in collaboration with the Department of Technology Services), and oversight of student employees (in collaboration with the Access Services Librarian). The Library Assistant is responsible for opening the library, overseeing building issues during the morning hours, and consulting with library administration as needed. The position is part of the Access Services team and will participate in department projects and activities, especially in the areas of interlibrary loan, serials, book displays, stacks maintenance, and social media. This position is one of two Library Assistants. This position will be working and coordinating with the other Library Assistant to fulfill these functions. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to learn new skills and apply such knowledge, the ability to work well in a group as well as independently, and a desire to learn more about libraries. The morning Library Assistant would be responsible for opening the Library Monday thru Friday, 7am-3pm.**Essential Functions:**1. Staffs and oversees the Library Services desk, including all aspects of patron interaction around book check-out, retrieval, and patron accounts. Responsible for basic technology troubleshooting of printers, public computing, and other technologies as needed. Participates in work related to book displays, stacks maintenance, social media and other library services as needed. **40%**2. Shares responsibility for serials check-in, processing, and maintenance. Tracks missing issues and forwards information in a timely manner to Acquisitions & Resource Sharing Librarian so claims can be made. Maintains serials processing workflow documentation.**10%**3. Shares responsibility for interlibrary loan check-in, processing, and maintenance. Tracks missing items and forwards information in a timely manner to the Access Services Librarian so claims can be made. Maintains interlibrary loan processing workflow documentation. **10%**4. Participates in the training and oversight of student workers and coordinates their daily tasks, in conjunction with the Access Services Librarian and other Library staff. **15%**5. Responsible for opening the Library and acts as the primary contact person for any emergencies in the morning hours, working with campus security and in communication with Library administration.**15%**6. Special projects as assigned.**10%****Required Qualifications:*** Bachelor’s Degree* Experience supervising others* Excellent customer service skills* Experience in a library setting* Working knowledge of fundamental library concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge in varied situations. Uses instructions and guidelines to perform the job functions.
