Position: Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Mgr) Location: Kodiak, AK – MWR Aquatics Facility Pay Plan/Series/Pay Band: NF-0188-03 Salary: $26.83-$28.75/hour + DOE Schedule: Temporary Full Time Not to Exceed 1 Year; 30-40 hours/week Opening Date: 25 September 2025 Closing Date: Until Filled Who May Apply: All Sources Agency: U.S. Coast Guard Community Services Command Duties

Assists Recreation Manager with planning, developing, and maintaining a military recreational fitness program for active-duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians. Assists with planning, coordinating, and scheduling recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings to maximize use of facilities and resources consistent with the military mission. Safety is the number one priority. In coordination with Facilities Engineering, assists with the operation and cleaning of the pool, and associated facilities in accordance with standard operating practices and procedures. Ensures that pool chemical levels remain in the appropriate ranges; report and balance pool chemicals as needed. Assist with scheduling and oversight of indoor recreational aquatics programs including swim lessons, open swim periods, intramural sports, and recreational games. As Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Facility) responsible for implementation of the following: Seek, improve, and apply knowledge and skills as related to the Aquatics programs. Understand the requirements and assist with the preparation of all annual or other daily/weekly scheduled operations as required. Help to ensure that references and standard operating procedures are current and accessible. Manage staffing and pool schedule, and patron statistics. Assist with conducting and completing the annual aquatic facility inspection to ensure compliance with all policy requirements. Conducts a swimming lesson program for youth at the MWR Aquatics Facility. Assist with keeping track of participation levels and reports as needed. In-Service monthly training program for all lifeguards - must include physical assessment of skills and knowledge. Assist in coordination of and participate in other MWR activities and events as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Qualifications Required : Minimum : Demonstrated experience as a lifeguard. Demonstrated experience in planning and executing aquatic programs. Current certification as a Lifeguard with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid, or equivalent. Have or capable of obtaining Water Safety Instructor and Certified Operator certifications within 6 months of appointment. Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing a workforce. Skilled in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc) and Adobe Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs Must be capable of working around chemicals (CO2, Chlorine, testing reagents, etc) Must have normal color vision, pass a pre-employment physical, and hold a valid driver’s license. Preferred (in addition to the minimum): 2 years’ experience as a lifeguard 2 years’ experience as a supervisor Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Water Safety Instructor Trainer Benefits
