Position Description for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture

In addition to the Department of Landscape Architecture, the Davis College of Agricultural Science & Natural Resources houses several departments and research centers. For the current academic year, the college enrolled about 2,759 undergraduate and 539 graduate students and generated approximately $20.1 million in extramural research funding. About the Department
The Department of Landscape Architecture (DoLA) has a long history of excellence. The BLA and MLA programs are fully accredited by LAAB. DoLA benefits from strong alumni and industry support and plays an essential role in the college’s research enterprise, including service-learning and community outreach. DoLA collaborates with other campus programs and utilizes two campuses’ facilities: the CASNR Annex (offices, classrooms, computer lab, printing, plotting, and digital fabrication spaces) and the Landscape Architecture studio in the renovated Agricultural Pavilion. The Department of Landscape Architecture in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in fall 2026 (September 1, 2026) or earlier. We seek a colleague with diverse skills and experiences who will advance landscape architecture, promote critical and creative design, and integrate social, technical, and biophysical processes to design resilient landscapes with engaging spatial experiences. Texas Tech University has identified five Strategic Research Themes: Systems Resilience & Adaptability, Powering Our Future, Advancing One Health, Rural & Urban Development, and Strengthening National Security. Applicants should demonstrate how their research and teaching align with these themes. Candidates with strong extramurally funded records and the potential to bring externally sponsored research to TTU are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building and extracurricular commitments; service to the department, college, and university is expected. As a faculty member in the DoLA, you will be expected to: Contribute to the teaching mission of the DoLA by integrating your areas of interest and expertise. Mentor and recruit graduate students (MLA and PhD) who align with your teaching and research agenda. Develop a record of peer-reviewed or funded research that supports the DoLA’s mission and vision. Provide service to the DoLA, the Davis College, TTU, and the profession related to your areas of interest and expertise. Required Qualifications
Required qualifications for this position are: Accredited landscape architecture degree (BLA or MLA) and a terminal degree (PhD) in a related discipline OR a terminal landscape architecture degree (MLA). Experience teaching landscape architecture studio or lecture courses (including teaching while a graduate student) in at least one of the following areas: Resilient landscapes Urbanization and urban design Landscape performance Landscape technology Strong landscape architecture skills and knowledge demonstrated by an emerging or established research record in at least one of the following areas: Resilient landscapes Urbanization and urban design Landscape performance Landscape technology Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: US professional licensure and/or a strong record of professional practice. Record of peer-reviewed research and/or juried design awards at regional, national, and/or international levels. Evidence of capacity to generate external funding and/or an impactful research agenda. Demonstrated experience with outreach and engagement, including community-engaged projects, working with entities outside the university (lectures, workshops, exhibits, K-12 outreach, policy/advocacy, design centers with community engagement, etc.).
