CARS/Fire Alarm Network Administrator Join UNC Finance and Operations as a Network Administrator supporting the Electronics‑Specialty Shop and Access Control Shop. This role maintains the Central Alarm Receiving System (CARS) and related databases, provides technical support for life safety and security systems, and manages network infrastructure for alarm and fire panel monitoring.

Responsibilities

Maintain CARS and associated databases, keeping them current and backed up.

Provide technical, programming, and application support for CARS, DCS, FADS, SEC, and EAS systems.

Recommend software and firmware upgrades and update user account information.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network problems for life safety electronics shop users and departmental PCs.

Assist end users with training on operating systems and applications.

Administer life safety servers and workstations, using Remedy to log requests and monitor progress.

Work with vendors to resolve hardware and operating system issues and implement fixes.

Enroll users and maintain system security, applying up‑to‑date security methods compliant with the University Security Administrative Initiative.

Manage database systems (Microsoft SOL and Access), including server installation, upgrades, and storage planning.

Support hardware installation for servers, PCs, IP‑based alarms, and peripheral network equipment.

Manage the network IP structure for alarm transmission over security, equipment, and generator alarms.

Maintain campus Fire Panel Online Monitoring (FPOM) and the New Radio Mesh Network System, including database management and network configuration.

Install or modify life safety dialers onsite or via remote dial in.

Provide office management assistance: purchasing office supplies, obtaining purchase order numbers, and record keeping of invoices and parts.

Assign work orders of various types to shop employees and assist the Access Control Shop with security camera programming and server support.

This position may also support the Access Control Shop 245303 with camera programming prior to installation and provide assistance with camera servers.
