P020169 Responsibilities
Maintain the Central Alarm Receiving System (CARS) and all databases that support CARS, Digital Communication Systems (DCS), Fire Alarm Detection Systems (FADS), Security Systems (SEC), and Equipment Alarm Systems (EAS). Provide technical, programming, and applications support; recommend system software and firmware upgrades; update CARS user accounts. Perform networking support: troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues; train end-users; coordinate with IT. Perform primary network system administration on Life Safety servers/workstations; log requests in Remedy; monitor progress and resolutions; work with vendors to resolve hardware/OS issues. Enroll users and maintain system security in compliance with University standards. Manage databases (Microsoft SQL and Access); install/upgrade database servers and tools; plan storage requirements. Hardware support for servers, PCs, IP-based alarms, and peripheral network equipment; manage alarm network IP structure. Manage FPOM database, network configuration, and related hardware; manage New Radio Mesh Network System and other Life Safety systems. Assist with office management tasks such as purchasing and record-keeping; assign work orders to shop staff; may assist with camera programming for Access Control Shop. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related field with one year of IT experience; or a bachelor’s degree with one year of IT experience; or a related technical degree with appropriate experience. Journey level requires an additional year; Advanced level requires two additional years. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Ability to diagnose account NSR issues, communicate installation requirements, and coordinate with customers to ensure accurate database information for urgent situations. Ability to read mechanical/electrical/building blueprints related to alarm networks. Proficiency with Microsoft computing systems, system management, and data management of Microsoft Office. Ability to understand industry terminology to communicate with contractors, project managers, IT personnel, and technicians. Availability to work as a mandatory employee for essential operations, including during adverse conditions. Required Licenses/Certifications NICET Level II Certification for Fire Alarm Systems preferred or required to be gained within four years. NC Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Recent experience in the Fire Alarm industry; factory certification by at least two major fire alarm manufacturers; experience with life safety system design review, testing, and commissioning; familiarity with state agencies (NCDOI, NCDOL, NC SCO); proficiency in Microsoft Office; NICET Level I Certification; knowledge of digital communication systems; understanding of University purchasing procedures. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Ability to work overhead, crawl, move up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, stand/walk for long periods, and travel between sites as needed.
