Requirements:

High School Diploma or its equivalent.

ACTIVE Florida Law Enforcement Compliance/Certification of Equivalency of Training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

VALID Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by time of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

For Law Enforcement Investigator II: Three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience.

Minimum one (1) year professional experience in digital forensics or cybersecurity.

Preferences

A degree from an accredited college or university.

Special consideration may be given to bilingual candidates.

Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE)

DEASTP – Digital Evidence Acquisition Specialist Training Program

Cellebrite Certified Operator/Physical Analyst (CCO/CCPA)

College education can be substituted at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year required experience.

Note:

Correctional Officer and Correction Probational Officer Certifications DO NOT meet the requirements of the job description.

The Division requires you to live no more than 50 miles from your residence to your assigned duty station. Mileage will be determined by geodesic distance (direct line).

LEI II annual salary is $63,000.00. A CAD (Competitive Area Differential) of $4,999.80 will apply only to positions in Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties.

Employees are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Selection Process and Compensation Selection is a three-to-six-month process. The successful applicants must pass the Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exam, and CJSTC background prior to beginning.

Responsibilities and Duties

Incumbent is a member of the DFS Disaster Response Team and may perform duties on short notice to support disaster relief efforts. The position requires a sworn law enforcement officer on call 24/7, bearing firearms, and maintaining certification under Chapter 943, Florida Statutes. The Digital Forensic Examiner conducts collection, preservation, and forensic analysis of digital evidence to support investigations, using specialized tools while maintaining chain-of-custody. Findings support leads, case development, and testimony.

Perform forensic imaging and analysis of computers, mobile devices, removable media, cloud storage, and other digital platforms.

Recover and examine digital artifacts (emails, documents, internet history, messaging apps, geolocation data, metadata, deleted files).

Use forensic tools to extract data with strict chain-of-custody.

Prepare detailed forensic reports and provide expert testimony in court.

Collaborate with detectives, investigators, and prosecutors on digital evidence.

Participate in search warrants and on-scene digital triage.

Investigate crimes involving digital media and preserve evidence across devices.

Research emerging forensic technologies to enhance capabilities.

Other investigative activities include: follow-up investigations, interviews, arresting suspects, presenting information to prosecutors, handling confidential sources, and managing evidence in accordance with laws and policies.
